About us and our Ranch

We are fortunate to live in beautiful Central Oregon.

With the high desert climate, the sun shines over 300 days a year. The Cascade Mountains tower to the west while the Oregon desert goes on eastward. This location is perfect for raising Gypsy horses.

When we were children, we both visited Central Oregon with our parents. We felt we could roam anywhere and be safe. As adults, we wanted the same thing for our children and later returned to this area. Our ranch exudes a quietness that invades your soul.

When we first saw the property, it cast a certain spell over us. The mountain views are incredible! The ranch backs up to over 33,000 acres of public land loaded with miles of trails that meander through rock bluffs and down to the Deschutes River. It is a beautiful place to live!

With a total of 64 acres split between two ranches two miles apart, our horses enjoy plenty of pasture year round. None of our horses are stuck with mud. While we keep the horses in small herds, we try to make sure each herd has plenty of room to roam.

Our Stallion Pride has his family with him year round. Yes that includes the babies. When they are weaned we let the foals stay with Pride and other foals their age. Pride loves this. Pride tends to put his personality on the foals. He lets them jump all over him and really does enjoy their company. The mares go into a group of their own. for a while. Then the Mares come back when the weanlings get too old to stay with Pride. If the mares are open, we decide if Pride will be with them that year. If not they go in with another small herd. But Pride is never alone. He is a happy well adjusted boy!

We have been very lucky to have these wonderful horses with us the past few years. They have truly saved us.

Our home burned to the ground a few years ago. It was horrible. Anyone who has watched their house slowly burn to the ground knows this feeling. It makes you sick. It makes you crumble. All of us fell apart.

We went through the horror of watching it gradually disappear into ashes. It was a log home and it burned so hot that the fire department couldn't go in. So they had to suck water from our pond (Koi fish and all) and try to get the fire out. Our nasty rescue goose was adding to the turmoil by attacking the poor fireman! As one of the firemen shook the goose off his leg he still stood there with his hose and saved our office (detached) as well as our barn.

The fire department was unbelievable! We will be forever grateful to them.

The amazing part of it all was the peace that our horses gave all of us as we all hung onto our horses and cried - and they just stood there and let us! They seemed to know that somehow this was a time to stand solidly and quietly for their humans. They didn't freak out. They were so calm. They made us believe that somehow we would be OK. Is that crazy?

We are now building a new home and are putting this behind us. It was a tragic loss but we have moved forward and now try and take one day at a time with our wonderful horses, dogs, and family. We have become very grateful for every little thing.

It really did teach us to make the best of every single day. And most importantly live in the moment. We try and appreciate everything as it comes to us and ignore the nastiness of the world. We are a very strong family. But number one is that we are truly blessed.

Jeff and I are happily both at the same place when it comes to the love of our horses! They grab your heart and they just don’t let go. Going from never wanting to own a horse, to knowing now that our lives could NEVER be without these wonderful calming horses, has been a wonderful experience. At this point in our lives we know that with or without a house we could live in the barn as long as we were all with our horses.

We are getting to the point now where we want to use every horse we have on our property. So hopefully in the next few years we will have our herd set and will be driving and riding and showing! And living a wonderful life with our horses! These horses have done more for us, than we will ever be able to write on this website. We owe each and every one of our horses the best possible life they could ever have.

We are just normal (well somewhat) people who are far from perfect. But we wouldn't change one thing in our lives good or bad. Everything has made us who we are today. We really try and just love life with our horses and family. And of course be the best human beings that we can.

We are always here. We want to help if we can and listen if you need us to listen. We are not and never will be vindictive or nasty with people.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this long winded note! Hopefully you know a little bit about us and feel comfortable calling us or e-mailing us.

We always answer our e-mails quickly! In fact I am always on the computer or have it beep when an e-mail comes through.

We love new ideas, and we appreciate knowing if something on the website has gone bad.

We have posted pictures of the people in our lives that come over and visit and spend time with our horses. There are so many that I can't post them all here! But I do update pictures regularly. Our horses really enjoy human interaction! So we get lots of pictures! They don't know life any other way!

Our door is always open for visitors. We truly love to meet people that love Horses and Dogs! We do have a few!

OUR PHILOSOPHY AND GUARANTEES
TO THE BREED
AND OUR CUSTOMERS

Purchasing a horse of any breed, whether it be one's first horse or another to add to an already established herd, can often unfortunately, be a stressful experience.
We at Gypsy Elite know the feeling!
When we decided to make Gypsy Horses our breed of choice, we knew we had to make sure, that none of our customers, would ever have to go through some of the stresses associated with new horse ownership.
Great horse ranches and great customer service, is never an accident. It requires absolute and total commitment. Complete dedication by the owners is a must.

FOALS AND YOUNG STOCK

ALL of our youngsters will be wormed, vaccinated, and completely vetted sound, before leaving for your home. They will have all had considerable handling and will stand for grooming, lead, tie and trailer. They will be up to date on vaccinations, according to age and have a current Coggins. If necessary, their feet will also have been trimmed before leaving our property. We have five of our own children, with our youngest born in 1996, they love to interact daily with our horses. We also have 10 dogs, so our young horses are all used to pretty much everything by the time they are weaned.

OLDER AND MATURE STOCK

Our professional ranch trainers, work and exclusively train using gentling techniques rooted in Natural Horsemanship. This approach permanently instills the young and older horse alike, with trust and confidence. Traits that make for ideal, lifelong companions.
Many of our older and mature stock, which we offer for sale, are already trained to the cart or have had time under saddle. Some have both.
As with our youngsters, our older stock will be wormed, vaccinated, and completely vetted sound, before leaving for your home. They will have all had considerable handling and will stand for grooming, lead, tie and trailer. They will be up to date on vaccinations, according to age and have a current Coggins. If necessary, their feet will also have been trimmed before leaving our property. They will have been handled by grownups and children and become used to all our dogs.
If for some reason, we know of a particular quirk one has, you will be honestly told of it before purchase. You will be apprised of where an individual is in our herd regarding pecking order. This way, you will know how to introduce him or her, to your own herd.

STALLION SERVICE

All stallions stand with a live foal guarantee with return the next year. A different mare owned or leased by contract may be substituted. Shipped semen may be split and used for multiple mares at no extra charge, but LFG will apply to only one mare.
